What is the Function of the Pin on the Cable on the Yakima HoldUp Bike Carrier
Question:
Your video review of the Yakima Hold Up makes no mention of the short pin on the cable yet it is viable in the photos on the test drive as well as the still photos for the product. How important is it to use that difficult to install and REMOVE pin?

Expert Reply:
The red handled pin with the cable on the Yakima HoldUp bike carrier # Y02443-2 is basically a failsafe pin. In the instructions they call in the stabilizer pin. Should something occur to the spring loaded pin that allows the carrier to fold up and down that pin with the cable will prevent the carrier from pivoting unexpectedly. You will want to use the pin as described in the installation instructions. It basically says to always use it.
What makes it difficult to install or remove when the carrier is folded down is the weight that is on the pin. If you lift a little on the carrier it will go in or come out easier.
