Resetting Breakaway Switch on Trailer to Allow Brakes to Release

Question:

the pin got pulled out of the switch and the wheels are locked so how do you unlock the wheels and reset the switch?

Pushing the pin back into the breakaway switch should allow the brakes of the trailer to release. You may have to back the trailer up slightly to get the brakes to release.

If you have tried that and are still having problems you may need to replace the switch with something like the part # 3802348.

The pin pulled out of the switch. Do I need to have 12V power on to re insert pin? Am unable to insert pin...do I need power or need to back up trailer to reset?

@VinceD The pins are pretty difficult to insert and remove so what you are experiencing is normal. It does not need power to fully insert. As long as nothing is damaged just try a little more effort and it will go back in.

@JamesonC Got it! The box is located under the LPS tank rack and hard to get purchase with pin...extra elbow grease helps. Thanks.

@JamesonC One other question- The battery for this switch is nowhere to be found, although I've not crawled under the entire trailer yet. Is it possible it feeds off of my 12V battery? Thanks!
