Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2005 Chevy Silverado Towing 34 Foot Open Range

I have an 05 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Will be pulling an Open Range 34 ft. Rv with approximate wt. of 13,000 lbs. empty. Was looking at the Reese hitches. What weight hitch do I need?

You'll want a fifth wheel hitch whose capacity exceeds the maximum possible weight of the fifth wheel, also known as its GVWR. You should find this weight listed on the ID plate which has the fifth wheel's VIN.

If the fully loaded weight of your fifth wheel is less than 20,000 lbs, then the Reese fifth wheel hitch you referenced, part # RP30928, would be a good choice for a long bed truck. For a short bed, you'll want to use a rotating pin box as well to help prevent the nose of your trailer from coming into contact with the cab of your truck. If the GVWR of your fifth wheel is less than 16,000 lbs, you can use # RP30047 for a long bed or # RP30075 for a short bed.

To install the fifth wheel on your truck, I'd recommend the # RP50064-58 custom install kit, and to install a 7-way connector in the truck bed, use part # 41157.

I've linked you to some install videos for the wiring and the hitch.
