Recommended Weight Distribution With Sway Control System For 13,800 Lb Toy Hauler

Question:

I am towing a 13800lb toy hauler when its loaded with a 2015 ram 3500. I am looking for a weight distribution with sway control that has a class V shank. I am trying to avoid use of the adapter in the receiver. Any suggestions? Thanks a ton!

To choose the best weight distribution system that will work for you, you will need to know the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow. Add that to the weight of any cargo placed behind the rear wheel of your Ram. That will give you the tongue weight you need to use when choosing a system. You will want to try and find a system where your tongue weight falls near the middle of the system range.

If you find your tongue weight is around 1,400 lbs I recommend a system like part # RP66075. This WD system is designed for tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,700 lbs. The system has a gross towing weight capacity of 17,000 lbs. It will fit 2-1/2 inch receiver openings, and includes sway control.

If you find your tongue weight is more, you may want to check out the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control, part # BXW2000. This system is designed for tongue weight between 1,500 lbs and 2,000 lbs, and has a towing weight capacity of 20,000 lbs. This system also works with 2-1/2 inch receiver openings and includes sway control.

You will also need hitch ball, part # 63840. This is a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball and it has a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank.

I have attached a helpful article about weight distribution and sway control you can check out.
