The shank of the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount, part # BWTS10049B can be used with the Clevis Adapter, part # BWTS35100B you said you have and can also work with the pintle hook that is included with part # BWTS10056. The clevis adapter BWTS35100B cannot be modified to be used like the pintle hook since it cannot be used with a trailer hitch ball. I confirmed this with my contact at B&W.

The platform pointed out in the attached photo of the BWTS10056 can be removed and the BWTS10056 can be used to connect to standard ball couplers for towing.

The tow and stow pintle hitch TS20056 states you can pull 16,000 # as a pintle, but only 10,000 if you use the 2 5/16" ball. The ball is rated for only 10,000. Can you put a 16,000# rated ball on it for a higher rating like the pintle? Doesn't make any sense to me why you can pull 16,000 as a pintle, but you cannot pull more than 10,000# even if you change the ball. This is what B&W customer service told me.

I reached out to my contact at B&W and he did confirm that the Tow & Stow Pintle Hook # BWTS20056 has a weight rating of 10,000 pounds when using it as a ball mount - regardless of what ball is used. Changing out the ball itself to a higher capacity unit will not actually increase the ball mount's rating. This is simply how the unit was designed and tested.

I’m running into the same issue. I have a 2500HD and want full 14,500 lb tow capacity. If I buy the pintle it reduces my ball mount capacity to 10,000. If I buy tow and stow I get full tow capacity. I had same idea to use tow bar as pintle lock. Question is why on pintle does capacity reduce to 10,000 in tow ball mode, doesn’t make sense. Are they just trying to sell you both a tow and stow and pintle attachment. I don’t want to have to switch attachment and stowed position is needed. In my application I switch between 2”, 2 5/16, and pintle on a daily basis. Can you check with B&W and provide me with options. Thanks!

I've actually talked with B&W before about this and they simply told me that it's just how the ball mount is designed and tested. Even switching out the hitch ball itself with a higher-rated unit will not increase the capacity of the ball mount.
