How to Convert Older B and W Companion 3000 to Newer Style Companion
Question:
I just bought a 2014 ram 3500 mega cab single rear wheel not dully. When installing my BandW companion model 3000 it has the older style shank/shaft that uses the u-bolts to secure it to the base. This makes the hitch sit very far back even adjusting the coupler all the way forward just barely puts it even with the rear axle. The newer BandW use a different shank/shaft that you can mount in the forward or backward position for ram trucks. Is there a different one I can buy for my old companion with out buying a whole new base? Or what would you suggest?

I spoke with my contact at B and W and he told me that you will need to replace the base of your Companion 3000 with the base part # BWRVB3500.
Basically you will be able to reuse the head of your current hitch by replacing the base.
