Available Trailer Hitches for 2012 Subaru Impreza WRX Sedan for Use with Hitch Bike Rack

I have a 2012 Subaru WRX sedan and I needed a 2 inch hitch for my bike rack what do you recomend ?

For the 2012 Subaru Impreza WRX sedan we offer a 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch from Curt, their part # C11317. This light-duty hitch has the capacity to transport up to 2 bikes on a compatible Class I hitch bike rack. No 2-inch hitch receivers are offered for any versions of the 2012 Impreza.

While it is possible to use a hitch adapter like # HTAD to allow installation of a 2-inch hitch bike rack in a 1-1/4-inch hitch, this practice is not recommended. Use of ANY adapter has the unavoidable side-effect of reducing hitch capacity by 50-percent. This means your Class I hitch will have only a 100-lb total tongue weight (TW) capacity if used with this adapter.

If the total weight of your bikes - again 2 at most - and your rack together remains within this 100-lb limit, then you can use the adapter but you will likely find the rack moves around a bit more when you're driving than you're used to. This will be because of the additional connection point introduced by the hitch adapter. You may want to use a stabilizing strap like # 18050 to help control rack motion.

A better and safer alternative is to instead select a Class I-compatible 2-bike carrier that will directly fit the Curt hitch without need for an adapter. This lets you keep your entire 200-lb hitch capacity and avoids the cost and extra motion of using an adapter.

For a great cost-effective 2-bike hitch rack I suggest the Curt # C18085. This rack provides a foot of clearance at the back of the car, a 90-lb capacity, it suspends the bikes at their wheels. You can add an anti-rattle hitch lock # SHP2082 to secure the rack to your hitch and a cable lock # e98891 to lock the bikes to the carrier.
