Compatibility of Thule T2 4-Bike on either a 2016 Honda Pilot or Subaru Forester

Question:

I have a Thule 4 bicycle platform rack that I had been using on a 2010 Nissan Pathfinder. I am thinking of getting a 2016 Honda Pilot or 2016 Subaru Forester. Do you know if my rack would work with the trailer hitches you sell for either the Honda or the Subaru? Are the under the bumper hitches high enough to use the rack? Does the hitch come out far enough to allow the rack to be folded up? Any information you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thank you,

I can help you find a solution for your Thule T2 4-Bike Rack # TH9044-TH9046.

The two big measurements we want to pay attention to for if your T2 will fit on either of these vehicles is the distance of the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper and the measurement of the center of the hitch pin hole to the first contact of the carrier when folded up. When the T2 is folded up the wheel hoops are the first to contact and that measurement to the pin hole is about 4.5 inches. Next we will want to compare the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper to make sure that each hitch will accommodate that distance.

For the 2016 Honda Pilot all the hitch receivers are mounted in the same position and the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is 3 inches. So, Curt # C13146 or Drawtite # 75225 will work for you.

Since we haven't been able to confirm the distance on the 2016 Subaru Forester hitches, I looked at the 2015 as a reference. I found for the 2015 Subaru Forester all the hitches are not mounted in the same position. The Curt # C13144 center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is about 6-3/4 inches, which will not accommodate the distance needed by the T2. The Drawtite # 75876 center of the hitch pin hole to the bumper is about 5 inches. Which is still a half inch short according to Thule's measurement.

If you are still having a hard time deciding, I wanted to point out the tongue weight capacity is significantly higher on the hitches for the Honda than those of the Subaru. Also the factory hitch that Subaru offers is not a 2 inch hitch and would not be compatible with the 2 inch shank on your bike rack.
