How Do I Determine Which Electric Brakes will Fit my 3500 Pound Axle

Good Afternoon, I have a 3500 lbs axle trailer. It has the 4 bolt backer plate to accept brakes. I am wondering which 10 inch electric brakes to purchase. Do i need to take a part the hub to get ID numbers off the bearings? Thank you

If you do not have drums already but have standard idler hubs, we would first need to select a drum, then make sure the brake assembly will fit inside that drum. As you guessed, the way to do that is pull apart the hub and bearing numbers.

For example, we can say you pull the hub apart and find you have the L68149 inner and L44649 outer bearing configuration, and your wheels are 5 on 4-1/2 lug pattern. With that information we know that you need the Dexter drum assembly, part # 84546UC3. Now that we know what drum you will be using, we know what assemblies will fit, 10 x 2-1/4, just like the assembly you were looking at. So you purchase part # 23-26 assembly for the left hand side and part # 23-27 for the right hand side and you are set.

You will have fresh bearings, new drums and complete electric brake assemblies.

If you can gather 3 pieces of information we can get you all set up with a complete brake system. We just need to know inner bearing number, outer bearing number and the bolt pattern of the wheel/hub.

I have added a link to a tire/wheel combo page that towards the bottom explains hows to measure bolt pattern.

I have also attached a video to the right that details hub removal, inspection and reinstallation.
