Recommended Trailer Hitch And Trailer Wiring For 2007 Honda Accord Coupe

Question:

I am wanting to put a hitch on my car, I am trying to figure out how to ensure I dont overload the tongue weight capacity of my car. 2007 Honda Accord Coupe pulling a 310lb, 3 rail motorcycle trailer loaded with 3 motorcycles weighing under 400lbs each. I am under the 2000lb weight limit if I load all 3 should only need 2 loaded. How do I get/figure out tongue weight. Before purchasing I want to make sure I do not damage my vehicle.

I did some research on your 2007 Accord Coupe and according to the owner's manual, you are limited to a 1,000-lb towing weight capacity. That is the combined weight of the trailer and any cargo loaded on the trailer. This information is on page 213 of the owner's manual. It also stated that the maximum tongue weight is 100-lbs. I am afraid carrying 2 motorcycles that weigh 400-lbs on a trailer that weighs 310-lbs would exceed the towing capacity of your Accord.

If you find you can eliminate some of the total weight the trailer hitch I recommend is the Draw-Tite, part # 24787. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.

You will also need a ball mount and hitch ball for towing. The ball mount I recommend is the Sportframe Drawbar, part # 3592. This ball mount has a 2-1/8 inch rise or 2-3/4 inch drop.

For a 1-7/8 inch diameter hitch ball I recommend part # 19256 and for a 2 inch hitch ball I recommend part # 19258.

The hitch pin and clip I recommend is part # PC2. For a locking hitch pin that helps deter theft I recommend part # e98879.

If you need a trailer wiring harness for your Accord I recommend part # C59236. This simply plugs into the vehicle wiring located behind the tail lights, and no cutting or splicing of the vehicle wiring is required.
