Why is the BikeWing Bike Rack Not Recommended for Bikes with Carbon Fiber Rims

One of your answers indicated that the BikeWing hitch rack is not suitable for bikes with carbon wheels. Can you please explain what the issue is. Thanks.

We don't recommend the BikeWing # LGA54FR bike rack for bikes with carbon wheels because carbon fiber doesn't care to have pressure applied directly to it. The weight of the bike bearing down on the carbon fiber rims that are in direct contact with the hooks that hold the wheels could damage the wheels.

If your frame isn't carbon fiber as well, you can use any one of a number of bike racks. The Swagman XTC2, part # S64670 would be a pretty good choice.

If the bike does have a carbon fiber frame, you won't want to use a rack that touches the bike frame, as exerting pressure directly against the bike frame could damage it. The Kuat Transfer 2 bike rack, part # TS02G would be an excellent choice. A hitch/cable lock combo is available separately as part # PTSCLK12.
