Aluminum Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2010 Honda Odyssey

Hi. I have a 2010 Honda Odyssey. My husband just put on the Reese 44174 Class III-IV Custom-Fit Hitch with 2inch Square Receiver. We are looking to buy a hitch cargo carrier for when we go camping. I keep reading different things about tongue weight which I think I understand. Various places have mentioned a max tongue weight of 350 for the van. I dont know if thats correct. Id like to put our camp kitchen which is wood and heavy, our filled coolers, and our giant tent tent is abt 75 lbs- no Im not crazy, its huge but fantastic with 3 kids, pack n plays and so on on the cargo carrier since they seem easier to strap down then lots of small items. Do I need to be concerned about the weight? A lot of the larger cargo carriers seem to be steel and heavy before adding all my stuff. What is your recommendation? Steel vs aluminum and any particular model? The camp kitchen is 22 3/8 x 31. Id love it to fit but I cant find a lighter cargo carrier that is wide enough. 60inch long or close to it would be great. Perhaps Im overthinking the weight issue. Or maybe the camp kitchen just wont fit. I appreciate your advice. Thanks,

For your 2010 Honda Odyssey the trailer hitch part number 44174 which is the same as our part # 75270 does have a high tongue weight rating at 675 lbs. But that is only the hitch's capacity. You will need to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine what Honda states as the overall capacity.

You didn't mention how much weight you will actually end up transporting, but you will have to make sure that the weight of the cargo (plus cargo carrier's weight) are less than the lowest tongue weight rating of either the vehicle or the hitch.

An aluminum carrier would be lighter since the metal doesn't weigh as much as steel. What is also nice is that it won't ever rust. The biggest aluminum one we carry would be the part # C18100 that measures 19 by 60 inches. Check out the review video I attached as well that shows the carrier being used on a similar Odyssey.
