Straight Shank Ball Mount Recommendation For a 1/2 Inch Drop
Question:
with a 1/2inch drop measurement, what is better, a 2inch drop or a straight in ball mount. can i washer up the ball to get closer to the 1/2inch . I will be towing a 1300# popup trailer behind a toyota tacoma access cab 2 wheel drive. The trailer frame is 11 1/2inch from ground when level. Thank you.

In this instance, I recommend using a ball mount with a straight shank, like the Curt Tri-Ball Mount # C45001. Once the trailer is coupled to the ball, the tongue weight of the trailer will pull down a bit on the truck and you will be near the 1/2 inch drop you measured.
The # C45001 offers a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball, 2 inch hitch ball, and 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. The ball mount has a capacity of 10,000 pounds with the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.
We do not recommend using washers to raise the hitch ball.
