Question:
I have a 01 toyota fourrunner with a factory wiring harness 4 flat trailer recepticle. I need to install a 4 flat to 6 round adapter to plug in my popup camper. It is a fleetwood coleman that has a single axle with trailer brakes. What adapter do I need and what brake controller do I need? And do you guys have some wiring instructions for installing the controller and adapter

A 4-Way flat trailer connector only carries the basic lighting functions for a trailer. In order to add a brake controller and 6-Way round connector to your 2001 Toyota 4Runner I recommend installation kit # ETBC6. It will provide the 6-Way and the accessories needed to install a brake controller.
I have included some links that show and explain the installation for you. Please note on the ETBC6 the blue wire goes to the center pin, the red wire goes to the outside pin. So if the trailer side connector uses the center pin for brakes then the blue wire would attach to a brake controller blue wire. If the center pin on the trailer is 12 volt power then the blue wire will need to go to the battery via the included 40 amp circuit breaker. The red wire then would be whatever function that the blue wire is not.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. Your 4Runner requires that a brake controller be hardwired in which is why the above kit was created.
