Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2007 Subaru Forester

Question:

I have a 2007 subaru forester. It seems that a 1.25 hitch is reccomended for the vehicle, but the swing away bike rack I want requires a 2 inch hitch. What hitch can I put on it?

All of the available hitches for the 2007 Subaru Forester have 1-1/4 inch receivers but the good news is that they are Class II hitches which will allow you more options for bike racks because they have a higher weight capacity than Class I hitches. Swinging bike racks are good for access to the rear of the vehicle, but we also have numerous tilting bike racks that allow access to the rear of the vehicle.

Take a look at the Saris Glide EX, # SA774. This is a 4 bike rack that tilts out rather than down, with or without the bikes loaded, to give you greater access to the rear of the vehicle. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.

For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 36311 for your Forester. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a video showing installation on a similar vehicle below.
