Do New Trailer Bearings, Races, and Seals have to be Cleaned First Before Packing them With Grease

Question:

These bearings came with an oil/lubricant coating, I suppose as protection against rust/corrosion. Does this need to be removed before packing? If so, with what? Thank you.

There is no need to clean off the bearing, races, or seals such as those that come in bearing kit # BK2-100. You can start packing them with grease right away. If they are dirty or you just want to make sure they are clean then I recommend using some spray brake cleaner available at any auto parts store. I have linked our help article on grease for you.

To limit the mess when packing bearings you can use a packing tool such as # PTW1218. I have linked a video review for you.
