Hitch & Tilting Bike Rack Recommendation for 2014 Mazda 3 Hatchback

Question:

I am looking for a bike rack for a 2014 Mazda 3 5door/hatchback. I would like to be able to open the door with the rack on with no bike on so I can have access to the back. Is this possible?

It is not possible to open a trunk/rear hatch on a vehicle while a trunk-mount style bike rack like the Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms Item # Y02634 is installed. But we have a solution for you if your goal is to keep rear cargo area access while transporting your bikes.

If you install a trailer hitch like Draw-Tite Sportframe Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24914 and select a compatible 2-bike Class I rack like the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # TH9058, which tilts away for vehicle access, you can avoid placing any weight on the car's rear hatch and keep the access to the car that you need.
