If you have a roof rack system on your Outback and is not the Sport model, the roof rack I recommend is the Yakima CoreBar roof rack. You would need to remove your roof rack and use the fixed mounting points on your roof.
The 50-inch aero-style crossbars design helps reduce wind noise and drag and helps keep the roof rack quieter. For this roof rack you will need part # Y00421, part # Y53TR, and part # Y00241. For longer crossbars, you can take a look at part # Y00422 for 60-inch, and Y00423 for 70-inch. The roof rack system has a weight capacity of 165 lbs. You will want to make sure you do not exceed the roof weight capacity of your vehicle.
To carry the canoes I recommend the KeelOver Rooftop Canoe Carrier, part # Y04069. These attach to the crossbars and also come with straps to hold the canoe securely as well as bow and stern tie-down straps.
You will need to measure your canoes at their widest point to make sure you can fit them side by side on the crossbar.
