Question:
Why do the curt hitch mounts require extra straps for bike carries and the DrawTight and others do not?

Curt requires the strap to provide extra support for when the vehicle goes over rough pavement or experiences a sudden shock like hitting a pothole. Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch feel that this isn't necessary with their hitches.
Because the strap is an extra expense, and because some vehicles just aren't well suited to using the strap, I'll usually recommend going with the Draw-Tite or Hidden Hitch models.
