Weight Distribution System Recommend for 1,000 lbs Tongue Weight with 6 in of Drop for 2.5 Hitch

Question:

Looking to replace my old friction sway WD hitch with either a Blue Ox Sway Pro 15K or Equalizer 4 pt 12K system....Here are some of my questions. I have a 2015 Ram 2500 the top of the receiver is 25inch and my hitch height for the Trailer is about 22inch from the top of the ball Is that considered a 3inch or a 6inch not counting the ball? I want to get a 2.5 shank based on those measurements if I can is that doable ? I understand I can buy the shankless Equalizer setup and add the correct shank...I contacted Blue ox and they will swap out the Shank for free assuming there 2.5 would work for me ? My TT is 32ft....Little over 1K tongue weight and weighs about 8K loaded up. Thanks and let me know if those shanks would work for me. attached is a pic of my current setup using the old shank I had used on a lifted Chevy 2500HD my new truck is not as tall....I have no issues with the current setup just not happy with the to large shank and tired of the friction sway control.

The correct way to determine the amount of drop you will need is to measure from the top of the hitch opening to the ground like you mentioned but then on the trailer you will need to measure from the bottom lip of the coupler to the ground when the trailer is level. The difference between the two measurements is the amount of drop you would need. Based on the dimensions you listed you are most likely going to need a 5 inch drop.

If you have a hitch with a 2-1/2 inch opening then a system designed for that hitch size would work well for you.

If you went the Equal-I-Zer route you would need the shank part # EQ90-02-4900 as it can do up to 6 inches of drop like you would need. For a system by them that would work well with 1,000 lbs of tongue weight that does not come with a shank you would want the part # EQ37121ET. I would highly recommend this over the Blue Ox systems. Most people refer to the Equalizer systems as being the nicest available options.

To install the hitch ball will require a thin walled socket like part # ALL643216.
