Class III Trailer Hitch for a 2013 Subaru Outback and MaxxTow Aluminum Cargo Carrier

Question:

Hi, Im debating which hitch class III should I get for my MT70108 carrier for my 2013 Subaru Outback. I will use the hitch primary for the carrier basket, but will also get the bike rack at some point. Will the hidden hitch setup be too close to the car with the MT70108 carrier? Also, what are the pros and cons for each hitch with the MT70108 carrier? Thanks Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2inch Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2inch

Hidden Hitch trailer hitch # 75673 will actually be perfect for your 2013 Subaru Outback and MaxxTow MT70108. With the hitch installed it measures approximately 5-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole back to clear the rear bumper.

The cargo carrier measures 8-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier. That means this is approximately 3 inches between the back of the Outback and the carrier. That 3 inches is plenty of room! I have linked videos showing installation of the hitch on a 2013 Outback for you.

The Curt hitch # 13390 would work too but Curt requires the use of stabilization strap # 18050 when using the hitch for anything other than a trailer per their warranty requirements. Based on this I would stick with the Hidden Hitch.

If you do not already have a bike rack I can recommend some for you. Subaru Outback owners like the Thule Hitching Post Pro, # TH934XTR. This is a 4-bike rack that tilts and has anti-sway cradles. I have linked a video of it for you.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
