Determining Clearance of Hitch Mounted Load Extender with a 2015 Ram 1500 with Shell Window

I have a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 4-door crew cab with a shell on the bed. Will I still be able to open the rear window of the shell and access the bed with the hitch mounted, or will I have to remove it to access the bed?

To determine if this Kayak carrier will suit your needs on your Ram you will want to take a few measurements.

The first measurement will be from the center of the hitch pin on your hitch out 9-1/2 inches. This will be the distance that the Darby Extend-A-Truck's # DTA944 upright bar will be located. I recommend using a yard stick, dowel rod, or other tall object to act as the extender's post. The second thing you will want to check is the distance the window on the shell will extend while opening. If you have your yard stick or tape measure in the 9-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole and go to open your window slowly, you should be able to see if the window will make contact with the Darby post or not. The second measurement you will want to take is the height that your window will fully be open at. If is over 60-3/8 inches then you will know that the window will make contact with the Kayak while loaded.

Since there can be a variety of hitch pin hole locations and a variety of styles for cab toppers, you will want to check your particular vehicle to be for sure. If either of the measurements give you contact with the window you will know if you will need to remove it from the hitch to gain access.

I have linked a measurement diagram to better help you see where my measurements are.
