Flat Towing a 2015 Jeep Wrangler with custom Front Bumper with D-Ring Attachments

Question:

I have a 2015 wrangler with custom bumper and d-ring mounts with 3/4 inch diameter holes. So far so good for the RM-035 as I understand it. Instead of a Roadmaster Tow Bar however, I have a Demco Commander. I sure looks like it would work if the diameter of the tow bar would fit inside the bracket width and the bracket hole at the end of the tow bar was the right distance from the end of the bar so it could pivot. What do you think? Your illustration shows some short tube connected to the inside of the bracket. I assume that is unique to Roadmaster. Couldnt I just throw that away and bolt right through the hole in my tow bar?

I do have a solution for you but Roadmaster adapter # RM-035 fits D-ring mounting holes that are 7/8 inch or 1 inch in diameter that have taps that are 3/4 inches thick as opposed to holes that are 3/4 inches in diameter so they would not work. There isn't an adapter that would work with 3/4 inch diameter holes.

What I recommend is to install the Blue Ox universal base plates, # BX88266, and then use adapter # BX88310 which will fit the Demco Commander tow bar.

If you do not have safety cables already you can use Blue Ox cables # BX88197. For a lighting solution I recommend a diode kit, # RM-15247. Once installed you will not have to do anything with it again.

You may also need a high/low adapter to keep the tow bar level. I have linked a help article showing how to measure and a link to the high/low adapters we carry.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.

Do you make any wiring kits for jeep wranglers that you don’t have to hatchet your way into the factory wiring?

@Kent Sometimes a manufacturer will come out with one, but most of the flat tow wiring requires splicing. If you can let me know what model year your Jeep is I can let you know for sure if we have a plug-and-play style of wiring harness for you! We also have a installer locator tool I'm linking to this comment. You can use this to see if we have any shops we work with in your area who have said they are comfortable installing flat tow wiring.
