Will an Aftermarket Trailer Hitch Void 2016 Subaru Impreza Drivetrain Warranty
Question:
I am looking to purchase a 2016 Subaru impreza sport. Subaru does not offer a subaru trailer hitch as an accessory. And my local Subaru dealer said that installing an after market trailer hitch might void the drive train warrenty. Do you know of this being an issue? Cheers

When installing aftermarket products on your vehicle, like a trailer hitch in this instance, consumers are protected by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This act states, in part, that unless the installation and aftermarket product actually caused a problem then the installation and use of an aftermarket product will not void the warranty. You can learn more about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act online.
We have not heard from other customers about a hitch voiding the drivetrain warranty on their 2016 Subaru Imprezas.
When I found the online owner's manual for the 2016 Impreza, it states that only the Crosstrek models are designed to tow a trailer; other vehicle models are not designed or intended to tow a trailer. This may have been to what your local dealer is referring.
We have a couple of trailer hitch options for your 2016 Subaru Impreza. I like the Draw-Tite trailer hitches for your Impreza and recommend them because they will not require the use of an additional stabilizer strap when carrying a bike rack or cargo carrier, like the Curt hitches will require for their warranty. If your Impreza is a hatchback with a single exhaust, the Draw-Tite hitch is # DT24959. If your Impreza is the sedan, the Draw-Tite hitch is # 24960.
If you decide that you do not want to install a hitch, feel free to let me know what you are wanting to carry and I will be happy to look into an alternative solution for you.
