Is Additional Pin Or Hook Needed When Using SportRack Ridge Swing 4 Bike Rack

Hi, does this rack have any need for a j-hook/pin or is it somewhat pointless given that they use a screw to retain the rack in the receiver?

There is no need for an additional pin or hook as you described for the SportRack Ridge Swing 4 Bike Rack, part # SR2415.

The bike rack does have a threaded anti-rattle hitch pin which does a good job of reducing rattle when the bike rack is installed. This bike rack will hold up to 4 bikes and has a weight capacity of 140 lbs. When loading bikes in the carrier it is always a good practice to place the heaviest bike closest to the vehicle to keep additional stress off the back of the car.

If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance.
