Where Are the Brake Controller Install Wires for a 2008 Chevy Silverado
Question:
I have an 08 Silverado that was produced in late 07. The Truck came with Z71 package and had a 7 plug connector for the towing package. The wires that are supposed to be under the dash to tap into for the brake controller are not there. My local trailer shop says it is due to the mfg date that the truck indeed did not have wires for the controller. When they tried to wire my Prodigy P3 in they got it powered up and almost working. Without the controller I have all lights functioning. Once the brake controller is installed I only have brake lights. The problem is I am told that something with the brake light switch is odd on these rucks not allowing you to tap into the brake light switch for signal to brake controller. The guy said that there is something that can be bought to correct the problem but he did not elaborate on what it was or where to get it. I am hoping you guys can help this has been a nightmare.

Sounds like the guy who you had install the brake controller may have been in over his head (no disrespect). But we can help!
Your new body style 2008 Chevy Silverado did come with wires under the dash for wiring up a brake controller. If there were some that didn't we would have at least heard of one since we sell controllers for your truck all the time. To see how it would install check out the install video I attached. The wires are right under the dash near the brake pedal.
That being said it sounds like your brake controller's wiring is all sorts of screwed up and is possibly shorting out the trailer taillight circuits. Only way to know is to check out the connections your installer used and be sure he didn't wire the red wire to one of the taillight circuits as it sounds like he did.
