How to Determine Enclosed Trailer Roof Weight Capacity

Question:

I see that the racks can handle 400 lbs, however, Im not sure my new Wells Cargo 6x10 Fast Trac Cargo Trailer can handle it. I cant seem to get any info on the weight capacity of the frame and roof of my trailer. Suggestions?

The maker of your trailer is really the only reliable source for its specifications and capacities. In my research on the Wells Cargo website I too was unable to find any roof details about your trailer other than that the aluminum roof on the 6 x 10 Fast Trac cargo trailer FT6121 is one-piece (to prevent leaks, a nice feature) and that this material has a thickness of .024-inches. No roof weight capacity is provided.

I called Wells Cargo and spoke to a technician there and he advised that the best way to go is to contact them with your trailer's VIN (vehicle I.D. number). With that they can look up your specific trailer and confirm whether it has the rain gutters, which are required to install the Rack'em Fitz-All Enclosed Trailer Ladder Rack # RA-28. This rack itself does offer a 400-lb capacity as you noted, but the roof/rain gutter weight capacity will also affect your actual load-carrying ability.
