Cleaning Weldnuts to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2006 Honda Odyssey
Question:
What size tap should I use to clean the weld nuts. Have bad corrosion and was only able to get one bolt started.

Expert Reply:
You have to be very careful when using a tap on the weldnuts on your 2006 Honda Odyssey. This should be a last resort. The first thing to try is liberal use of spray lubricants such as WD40 or PB Blaster, let it soak for about 15 minutes, then use a wire brush and some elbow grease to clean out the threads. You may need to repeat this several times for the best results. I have linked a help article and a video on this subject for you.
If you have no choice but to use a tap you have to be certain that it goes in straight or the threads could be ruined. The tap size would be the same as the bolt size for the hitch which is M12 X 1.25 X 35mm.
