Cargo Carrier for a 2005 Chevy Aveo with Curt Class I Trailer Hitch

Hello, Thank you for the opportunity to ask a question. I have a 2005 Chevy Aveo LS on which I just installed a 1-1/4inch Curt Hitch, class II. I would like to purchase a cargo carrier to use while de-cluttering my garage. I need something lightweight since my Aveo has weight limits. Ive seen numerous cargo carriers and Im not sure which one to . I like the video I saw on this cargo carrier and also like the fact that the connection raises the cargo carrier up when attached to my vehicle. Is the C18110 a good choice for me? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

First you should know that the trailer hitches that fit the 2005 Chevy Aveo are actually Class I trailer hitches. These hitches also have 1-1/4 inch receiver openings like Class II hitches but Class I hitches are rated lower. It is also important in choosing accessories because using a Class II accessory in a Class I hitch could lead to overloading the hitch.

Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their warranty requirements.

With that said you can use # C18110 because it is Class I compatible. It has a capacity of 300 pounds but you will be limited to either the 200 pound tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch or the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle, whichever is lower. The carrier itself weighs 30 pounds so you would have to account for that as well.
