Yakima DoubleDown 4 And Thule Hitching Post Pro Comparison

Question:

Looking for bike rack for Honda CRV 2016. Normally 2 bikes but maybe more occasionally. I have a DrawTite class 3 2inch hitch. Looking at Thule Hitching Post Pro vs. Yakima Doubledown 4. Any preference? Vertical support for Yakima looks bigger.

I recommend the Yakima DoubleDown 4 # Y02424 for your 2016 Honda CRV because of the spring loaded pull pin used to tilt the mast forward when accessing the rear of the vehicle and the TriggerFinger release button to fold down the arms for storage when not in use.

The spring loaded pin and push button are much easier to use than the snapper pins the Thule Hitching Post Pro, # TH934XTR, uses. Also, the Yakima DoubleDown 4 is a little lighter making it easier to install and remove from the CR-V.

In addition I recommend an Adapter Bar, such as the Thule Bike Adapter Bar # TH982XT, if you are going to be carrying a woman's, children's or alternative frame style bike. This will keep the bike level which may not be possible with just the rack itself.

I also suggest taking a look at our "How to Choose a Hitch-Mounted Bike Rack" Help Article which I have attached.
