Options For Carrying Catrike Trike On 2008 Porsche Cayenne

Question:

I own a 2008 Porsche Cayenne SUV with built in tracks on the roof but no side rails. I recently purchased a Catrike trike and would like to carry it on my roof. I cant seem to find a rack specifically designed for a trike so I need to come up with something. Because it sits stable it would seem that I would need 3 wheel trays with tie downs to hold the wheels on some type of crossbar system. I pull a utility trailer behind my Cayenne so a hitch mount wont work. Any suggestions?

There are a couple options you can consider to carry your Catrike on your 2008 Cayenne with the factory tracks on the roof.

The first thing you will need is a roof rack. The roof rack I recommend is the Yakima Roof Rack. When installed this roof rack has a 48-inch crossbar. To order this roof rack you will need part # Y00408, part # Y00148, part # Y03536, and part # Y00221.

You can then use the Yakima Boa wheel cradles and attach then directly to the crossbars of the roof rack. You will need three cradles so you can either order three # Y02065 or order the parts you need individually. You would first need a qty of three part # Y8820126, and part # Y8820111. You will then need part # Y8810135, part # Y8880010, and part # Y8810041. I do recommend checking out the wheelbase on your trike to make sure the 50-inch spread of the roof rack will work for you.

Another option will be to order a ball mount like part # D210. This has a ball mount for your trailer hitch ball and a receiver for a bike rack like part # HR1000Z-R-TRKADP.
