Will the Pollack 7 and 4-Way Trailer Connector # HM40975 work on a 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler, and Im tired of having a loose 4 way flat hanging from the bumper. This recepticle looks like it would fit the bill, 4-way flat for my smaller trailers, and a 7-way for my RV camper trailer. Questions: Is any wire included in the package? When I wire up the 7-way, does the 4-way draw from that connection? Will I need to get a new 4-way flat - vehicle end? Just trying to establish what Ill need for installation. Just trying to be prepared! I like the looks of this product, and it appears to be the answer to my woes!! Please tell me it is!

Yes, the Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket - Vehicle End, item # HM40975, will answer all of your needs, and woes, if installed correctly. You will need some wiring to go along with this connector to get the 7-way functioning properly and the 4-way will need to be severed and rewired into a connector that mates to the back of the Pollack connector.

The harness needed to use the # HM40975 trailer connector is the 4 foot Pigtail Wiring Harness for Pollak Replacement 7-Pole RV Socket, item # PK11998. Along with this harness, which plugs directly into the back of the Pollack connector, you will need some additional wiring to complete the 7-Way connections. First, you will need a power wire for accessories and a brake wire for electric brakes on the camper trailer. The Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire - per Foot, item # 10-2-1, is what we use for these circuits. A 40 amp circuit breaker, item # PK54540, is needed for the power wire connection. Then you will need a length of 12 gauge wire, item # 12-1-1, to wire the reverse light circuit to the trailer connector. You will also need a quick splice, item # 562, to attach this wire to the reverse light circuit behind one of the vehicle tail lights.

Now that all of the wiring and parts are assembled you will need to wire the harness to the vehicle. Start, by cutting the 4-way connector off of the rear of the Jeep. Attach the green wire from the jeep to the green wire on the wiring harness, the yellow wire to the red wire on the wiring harness, the brown wire to the brown wire on the wiring harness and the white wire to the white ground wire and the included ring terminal on the wiring harness. Ground these two wires to the vehicle frame.

Next, attach the black wire in the jacketed 2 wire to the black wire from the wiring harness and the white wire in the jacketed two wire to the blue wire in the wiring harness. Run these wires forward to the engine compartment and connect the black wire to the Aux. side of the 40 amp circuit breaker. Connect the Bat. side of the circuit breaker to the positive post of the battery terminal. Then, run the white wire into the engine compartment and connect it to the blue wire from the back of the brake controller.

If a brake controller is needed, I would recommend the Prodigy P2, item # 90885, for your vehicle. This is one of our highest customer rated brake controllers and is easy to setup and use. Along with the brake controller you will need a 30 amp circuit breaker, item # PK54530, to connect the black power wire from the brake controller to the vehicle battery. We have a brake controller wiring from scratch page that will help with installation of a brake controller along with the instructions from the brake controller itself.

Finally, if the reverse light circuit is needed you will need to attach an appropriate length of 12 gauge wire, mentioned earlier, to the yellow wire on the wiring harness, and then quick splice the other end to the reverse light circuit behind one of the vehicle tail lights. A circuit tester, item # 40376, is needed to confirm which wire to splice to. If the reverse light is not needed you can use a cable tie and tie it up out of the way for future use.

We have a complete kit that will give you a 7-way and 4-Way connector at the rear of the Jeep and provide all of the needed wire and hardware. The Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, item # ETBC7, will do everything you want with a different style of connector. I have provided a video installation of this kit being installed for you to review.
