Recommended Converter To Separate Vehicle Wiring For Trailer Lights

I going to be changing the lights on my trailer and I would like to separate the signal and brake lamps so that the turn signal is an orange LED light. Id like to know if i can connect the 118158 module so that the 3 wire side connects to my vehicle and the 4 wire side connects to my new trailer lights? If yes, than anyone with a traditional trailer connector can plug into my trailer. Can you please let me know if the module will accommodate my needs regards.

To convert the combined signal from the vehicle to a separate on the trailer so that the brake signal is separate form the turn signal I recommend a converter like part # C56196. You would also need a trailer side 4-way connector like part # 18004. I have attached a drawing of the wiring you can run using the # C56196 converter. The converter is a different model but the wiring is run the same.

The only issue with a converter is if you have LED lights on your vehicle and you have incandescent lights on the trailer. The led wiring on the vehicle may not provide enough power for the incandescent trailer lights. If you have LEDs on the vehicle and trailer there will be no problem. If you have incandescent lights on the vehicle and LEDs on the trailer there is no problem either.

I have also attached a link to replacement LED lights that work in light assemblies that use incandescent bulbs you can check out.

I recommend also using a junction box like part # 38656, mounted on the trailer to do the wiring. You can use butt connectors like part # 05731-5 when splicing the wires.
