On a 2010 Chevy Silverado with a factory tow package, you will find the wiring from the brake controller under the dash, driver side, held together with white tape or a tag that explains the functions of the wires. There may be 4 or 5 wires but you only need 4 of them. If your brake controller has blunt cut wires coming out, you will need to connect them to the truck wiring using butt connectors. We offer a Wiring Installation kit that comes with several different connectors, electrical tape, a crimping tool, and numerous other parts, # HM51020. If the brake controller has a plug at the end of the wires coming out of the back, you will need to clip it off and use just the wires.

Check the tag that was holding the wires to verify the following functions. The blue wire on the truck connects to the brake controller blue wire for brake output. The red wire on the truck will connect to the black wire on the brake controller for 12 volt battery power. The blue wire with a white tracer will connect to the brake controller red wire for the stop light switch. The white wire on the truck will connect to the white wire on the brake controller for ground. If there is a remaining orange or brown wire, it will not be used. I have also included an FAQ below on brake controllers.
