How to Install Curt Flat Plate Gooseneck Hitch C65500 on 2009 Ram 1500

I had read in a previously answered question that the Curt 65500 gooseneck plate without under bed rails has a weight capacity of 20k, which would be more than Id put on a half ton. If I were to install this on my truck without the support rails, would I have to drill through the frame rails to mount it?

The Curt Flat Plate Gooseneck Hitch # C65500 requires either a universal Rail Kit # C61502 or other custom-fabricated under-bed reinforcement in order to meet its rated capacity of 30K. The installation kit will work in older trucks only but other installation methods are possible.

You can have an under-bed steel plate welded to the frame and then bolt the hitch plate to it but you cannot simply bolt the plate directly to the frame. The hitch plate requires under-bed reinforcement even if you are not using it near its maximum capacity.

The linked page displays all gooseneck hitches we offer for your 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with 6-foot bed. The B&W # BWGNRK1309 is both a gooseneck hitch AND a 5th wheel install kit that accepts the drop-in Companion 5th wheel slider hitch # BWRVK3400-5W. This set-up gives you the ability to tow both types of trailer yet still have the bed clear when you need it.

For a gooseneck/5th wheel wiring harness for your Ram you can use # PK11893-11932.
