Is a Trailer Hitch Available For a BMW 535xi Sports Wagon

can a receiver hitch be installed on a BMW 535xti sport wagon? I would like to use it for a bike rack and BMW doesnt have one.

I have the Curt Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch # 11194 that will fit a 2008 to 2010 BMW 535xi Wagon, AWD Sport Series. This hitch has a 200 lb. tongue weight capacity. The rear air dam does have to be permanently removed when installing this hitch. I do not have a listing for a BMW 535xti sport wagon.

When using this hitch for non-trailer loads, like a bike rack, you will have to use a stabilizing strap to help support the load. The manufacturer (Curt) requires the use of the Curt Stabilizing Strap # 18050 on all of their Class I 1-1/4 inch hitches. Because the Class I hitches have a lower tongue weight capacity they do not want any added strain to be put on that hitch.

The Curt stabilizing strap will attach to the bike rack and the other end to the vehicles trunk lip or window. It gives added support and stability to the bike rack and keeps the movement of the bike rack to a minimum, which puts less stress on the hitch.

This is a Class I 1-1/4 inch hitch so you will have to use a bike rack that will fit a Class I 1-1/4 inch hitch. You will be limited to only carrying two bikes on a Class I hitch. I would recommend the Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Rack # TH9042PRO. This bike rack will carry 2 bikes and has a weight capacity of 70 lbs. I am including a video link of a review on the Thule Bike Rack.
