Using The Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap On 2009 Ford Edge Limited With Spoiler
Question:
I purchased and installed the curt class III hitch and the stabilizer strap. There is no way to attach the clip on the hatch because of the spoiler and even if you could get the clip on, the pressure pulling down on the spoiler would break it. We are using an aluminum cargo carrier and would like to know how to stabilize the carrier.

Curt requires the Hitch Support Strap, # 18050, for use with any hitch accessory. They suggest putting a cloth or pad under the strap where it comes in contact with vehicle paint to protect your vehicle. They aren't very specific about how to install it when there is a notable issue like a spoiler that could be damaged. So, you will have to determine if you want to risk voiding the warranty on your trailer hitch receiver and using it without the strap or if you want to risk issues with the spoiler on your 2009 Ford Edge.
To further stabilize a carrier, I suggest using an Anti-Rattle pin like the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span, # 63232.
