Wiring New Trailer Connector with Reverse Light Signal to 2015 Trailstar Tandem Axle Trailer
Question:
I want add a backup light circuit to a 2015 Trailstar tandem wheel trailer, which has surge brakes, not electric. This will connect to a round 2009 Silverado 7 blade connector. The trailer connector is flat 5 pin.

The easiest way to add a reverse light circuit to your TrailStar trailer is to tap into the reverse light circuit on your 5-pole, IF that is the assigned function. Often boat trailers with surge couplers have an electric reverse lockout feature that allows you to back up the trailer without having to first get out of the truck to manually engage a lockout (which prevents the brakes from actuating as you back up against the coupler). If your trailer coupler has an electric lockout feature like that on Titan coupler # T4854020 then that is likely to be the function on the 4th circuit. Please refer to the linked article on trailer wiring for more on the various connector types and functions.
You might find it preferable to install a new 7-way plug on the trailer, like the item # H20044 you referenced, by mounting a junction box # 38656. All existing trailer wiring for the lights will connect inside the box, as will the pigtail leads from the 7-way plug. The junction box has a post for the reverse light circuit (which is already present on the truck's 7-way) to allow you to install a reverse light. You will need ring terminals # 44-5310A and # DW05702-1 for the different wire gauges and you'll also need wire like # 12-1-1 to bring the reverse signal back to the light you will install.
I suggest you use an LED-type light since it draws so much less power than an incandescent light, about 1/10th as much. Optronics offers a round LED backup light # BUL06CB you can use with plug # A49PB.
