Question:
which rack do you recommend for family bike rides up the road. Husband, myself and 9 yr old. Need ability to access back of pilot, so need tilt or swing? thanks!

For an active biking family, with all the gear that goes along with that activity, the best type of hitch-mounted bike rack is a swing-away type that lets you keep easy access to the vehicle's rear cargo area. For the 2-inch Class III hitch on your 2016 Honda Pilot I recommend the 4-bike Yakima FullSwing # Y02465. Swing-away racks beat the tilting variety hands-down when it comes to vehicle access.
Although you have only 3 bikes to load, the extra room on a 4-bike rack will make life easier when it is time to load the bikes up. It will also help prevent any bike-to-bike contact by proving more space. Both of these carriers are covered by a limited lifetime warranty and are built to last. Both include locks for the rack itself and for your loaded bikes. They also share the feature of having closely-spaced arms that reduce the need for an adapter bar # UB01 for kids and other bikes that do not have a horizontal top frame tube to mate with the carrier's arms.
