If you have a 6-1/2 ft bed on your 2016 Sierra I recommend the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider, part # C16536. This is a dual-jaw system that gives you 36-degree king-pin contact and that means less rattle. The slider provides 12 inches of front to back travel so you can execute turns more easily.

Since you have the rail system on your truck I recommend the Adapter Rails, part # C16023. This adapter attaches to the underbed system.

Question:

change of plans unfortunately. --I installed the Curt Q20 but distance from cab to trailer cap on a 2008 Triple E Topaz was not enough. Close to making 90 degree turn before crunch. Trailer was perfectly level. Maybe able to live with turning radius but have experienced cab crush and rear slider window replacement on a previous truck when I did have a manual slide that was not used. Oops! -I installed a Q20 with slider, clearance not the issue any more but trailer is not level for towing. No adjustment left on FabX520 pin box or on slider/hitch/adapter/Factory GM puck system -What options are left? Looking at installing Reese sidewinder 61410 16K. With a Curt A16 or A20 hitch and wedge. I read sidewinder cannot be used with Q series hitches. Is that correct? -Any idea if the wedge by Reese or wedge by Curt fits both the A16 and A20 Curt Hitch? Also what is the height from bottom of sidewinder at pin for hitch and bottom bolts on turret? What hitch height do I need for a level trailer with a A16 or A20. Thanks again

It sounds like the height of the Q20 in your truck bed is too high for the trailer. The Q20 height ranges from 17-1/2 to 21-1/2 inches. When using the adapter, part # C16023, it adds an additional 1-3/8 inches so you are looking at 18-7/8 to 22-7/8 inches of height in the bed.

You are correct that a Sidewinder cannot be used with the Q series hitch. Unfortunately, the A series is also not compatible with Sidewinders.

For a fixed hitch that is compatible with Sidewinders, I recommend the Reese M5, part # RP30890. The hitch height is 14 to 18 inches, so using it will decrease the height of the hitch in the bed of your truck.

The Sidewinder, part # RP61412 would give you 22-inches of additional clearance in your truck bed from the cab.

The Height of the hitch and pin box should be adjusted so the trailer is approximately level as it is towed. Allow approximately 6 in. clearance between the top of the bed and the underside of the front of the trailer.

To determine the hitch height needed for a fifth wheel hitch is pretty easy.

Back your vehicle under the fifth-wheel trailer stopping when the center of the king pin is directly above the center of the fifth-wheel attachment jaws. Measure from the top of the bed on the truck to the base of the pin box on the trailer. This will give you the measurement needed to select a mounting height for the fifth-wheel hitch.
