Recommended Ball Mount with 7 Inches of Rise on a 2014 Mazda CX-5

Question:

I have a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD with a hitch that is 13inch roughly from ground to inside of the hitch. I have a trailer with a coupler that is 20inch off the ground roughly. What size ball mount do I need?

If you're measuring from the ground to the inside top of the receiver opening and that is 13 inches, and the bottom of your trailer's coupler is 20 inches, then you'll need a ball mount with a 7 inch rise. I've attached a help article on ball mounts that shows how to properly measure if you need help.

For a Class III ball mount with a 7 inch rise, the Curt # C45338 will work for you. It also has a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds with 1,000 pounds of gross tongue weight. For a 2 inch hitch ball you can use # A-90, then # C21500 is a pin and clip that will work. If you prefer a locking hitch pin you can use # e98880.

Another option is an adjustable ball mount like the B&W Tow & Stow # BWTS10040B. This includes the adjustable ball mount with up to 7 inches of rise and two hitch balls, one 2 inch and one 2-5/16 inch. You can then use the same pin and clip or hitch lock. I highly recommend the lock if you use this ball mount.

If you have a Class II trailer hitch receiver the closest ball mount we carry has a 5-1/2 inch rise, part # BM96
