1000 lb Capacity Slipper Springs For 400 lb Sailboat Trailer To Ease Rigid Ride

Question:

Hi, I have a set of slipper leaf springs on my boat trailer that at 24 1/4 inch they are rated for 1500lb and they are beating up my little 400lb sailboat. I saw you have lighter weight slipper leafs rated for 1000lbs. They are 24 5/8inch would these work even though they are a bit longer? It looks like the curved end of the spring would just protrude further from the hanger. Your thoughts?

Expert Reply:

The 2-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Radius End for 1,000-lb Trailer Axles - 24-5/8" Long, # SP-177275 will most likely work well on your trailer and will ease the beating on your 400 lb sailboat. The 3/8 inch difference in length from your current springs shouldn't be an issue based on the curve, so I don't forsee an issue. However, if you find out it does bind and cause issues, you would need to move the mount.

Since you will be lowering the capacity of your trailer, make sure your boat and trailer are compatible with this lower rating in all capacities.
