Bike Rack for 2010 Winnebago Adventure 35P That Is Flat-Towing 2010 GMC Terrain

Question:

We are trying to locate a bike rack for our 2010 Winnebago Adventure 35P. We want to find one to attach to the ladder. The ladder is on the right side rear of the RV so that makes it a bit more difficult as we will need to hang the bikes vertically instead of horizontally. We purchased the Stromberg LA-102 not realizing that it only fit a 1inch ladder our ladder is 1.5.. We liked the design that you can leave it installed and just slide it open to climb the ladder. We also found the Surco 501BR Ladder Mounted Bike Rack but it also will not fit our ladder. We will be towing a vehicle so the hitch is not an option and the bumper mounted style is limited because of the vehicle behind it. What can you recommend? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Since the two RV ladder-mount racks you referenced, Stromberg Carlson # LA-102 and Surco # SP501BR, are both 2-bike carriers I will presume you have only 2 bikes to transport.

What I suggest is installing a hitch on the Terrain. The Draw-Tite # 76028, which is shown in the linked installation video, and in it using an RV-approved 2-bike hitch rack, like the cost-effective and lightweight Curt # C18085. This hitch/rack combination is less costly than most options and it offers certain advantages like an 90-lb total capacity, a foot of clearance from the hitch pin hole and 4-inches of rise in the shank. We offer matching hitch lock # SHP2082 and cable lock # e98891.

Using a hitch on the car to hold the rack means you do not negatively affect your turning clearance between the RV and the Terrain. You also gain the ability to use this bike rack or a cargo carrier like # C18151 in the hitch when you're not towing the car. You also do not block access to your Winnie's rear ladder, nor do you have to put a constant weight load on it as when it has to support the loaded bike rack.

The Vee Me is low in cost, lightweight (and so it is easy to handle), it offers a high 100-lb total bike weight capacity and it provides over a foot of clearance at the back of the Terrain.
