Bike Rack Recommendations While Towing Tear Camper with 2011 Ford Fiesta

Question:

Im looking to tow my tear camper about 1,000 pounds and use my hitch mounted bike rack. It doesnt look like using a dual receiver will give me enough clearance. I was thinking of using a hitch extender then bolting something similar to the Ultra-Fab 2inch Motor Home Trailer Hitch Receiver on the extender close to the tow vehicle. Is there anything available that can bolt to the extender or do you have any other ideas? Thanks

I do have a couple of possible solutions for you, however I cannot recommend using a hitch extender along with the Ultra-Fab 2" Motor Home Trailer Hitch Receiver # UF35-946401 or something similar, to tow your tear camper with a hitch mounted bike rack. Using a hitch extender is going to reduce the weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50%, so you will simply not have enough capacity for the camper and bike rack when the extender is used. Also, the Ultra-Fab Motor Home Hitch Receiver is designed to mount to the bumper of a motor home and is not intended, thus not rated to be mounted to a hitch extender.

One option is to carry your bikes on the roof of your 2011 Ford Fiesta with a roof mounted bike carrier along with a roof rack.

If you do not already have a roof rack and your Fiesta is the 5-door hatchback model, I recommend the Rhino Rack Vortex Bar Roof Rack. This system consists of # RRVA118B-2 for the two 46 inch Vortex Crossbars, # RRRLKVA for the 2500 Series Legs, and # DK046 for the DK Fit Kit This rack has a weight capacity of 165 pounds, although you will also want to check your vehicle's roof capacity as listed in the owner's manual.

For a roof bike rack, I recommend the Rhino-Rack MountainTrail Rooftop Bike Carrier # RBC035. This is a fork-mount rack that can carry a single bike of almost any length and style. I have included a video demonstration of this rack as well as a link that will take you to our selection of roof bike racks.

Another option that will allow you to carry your bikes and tow your camper at the same time is a trunk mounted rack. I recommend the Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier # TH910XT. This is a hanging rack that can hold 2 bikes and is confirmed to fit your Ford Fiesta. I also recommend adding the Thule Passive Security Strap # TH533 to secure the rack to your vehicle. I have included a video of this bike rack for you to check out.
