Will Yakima Fullswing Bike Rack Fit a 2017 Subaru Outback with Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver

I have the Curt Hitch receiver on my 2017 Subaru Outback and would like to know if the Yakima Fullswing is suitable and has suitable clearance. We are a family of 4 with two kids under 8 and do not anticipate driving long distances to get to suitable trails. We are attracted to the Yakima because of its swing ability with the bikes on. What has been your experience with fitting all four bikes 1 mens hybrid, 1 womens hybrid and 2 kids 24 inch and 16 onto the rack. Is it easy or a challenge every time? Are there any other brands and models you recommend? Thanks

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13206 that you have on your 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon has about 2-1/4 inches from the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of the bumper. That isn't very much which is good. The Yakima FullSwing # Y02465 measures about 9 inches from the hitch pin hole to the closest point of the rack. So there's plenty of clearance for the rack to fit on your Subaru.

Swinging the rack open is pretty simple. All you need to do is loosen a handle and pull a pin. It locks in the open position to keep it from swinging back on you when you're access the rear of your vehicle. To close you pull two pins to disengage that lock, swing it back in place and then tighten the first handle you loosened to open it. Check out the video I've linked to see it.

It's not a chore but it does take some effort to move around. Keep in mind you've got over 100 pounds of bikes or so on it when it's fully loaded. This is going to be the case with any swinging rack.

I've attached a link to all the 4-bike swinging racks we carry so you can look at the others. The FullSwing is my top choice of them. It has the full features like locks and ZipStrips as well as the highest total weight capacity at 160 pounds.

Since you'll be carrying a variety of bikes you may need adapter bars. The Kuat Ubar Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 creates that horizontal cross tube to hang the bikes on a hanging rack when the bikes don't already have one. This really helps women's and children's bikes ride level.
