Recommended 4 Bike Carrier That Can be Converted to 2 Bike Carrier

Hi, I would like to purchase a bike rack which can easily switch between 2 bike and 4 bike carrier. I usually transport only 2 bikes and would like the ability to detach the system and make it a 2 bike carrier when needed. Please let me know.

For a similar bike rack that can be converted from 4 to 2 bikes, I recommend the Pro Series Q-Slot # PS63138. This bike rack fits in 2 inch receivers but the 2 bike add-on can actually fit in a 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver. When you are hauling 2 bikes the weight capacity is 90 lbs, and when you install the add-on, that weight capacity is increased to 140 lbs. It secures the bikes to the bike rack by using the cushioned hooks and the hook-and-loop wheel straps This is our basic version of a 2 and 4 bike carrier.

The next step up would be the Swagman Quad 2+2 # S64692. The big differences between Quad 2+2 and the Q-Slot is that the Quad 2+2 uses ratcheting straps instead of the hook-and-loop version, it features a hitch lock and bike locks to further secure your equipment, and it is foldable so that you can park easier in smaller parking spots when your bikes are unloaded.

The best option that we have in the 4 bike to 2 bike category is the Thule T2 Classic # TH9044-TH9046. The things that set this bike rack apart from the other 2 is the ratcheting hooks hold the bikes by their tires which means that the frame of the bike doesn't come in contact with the hooks, it can accommodate fat tire bikes, it can fold up, and it can tilt forward while bikes are still loaded for easy access to your cargo area. It has a hitch lock, and the ratcheting hooks can be locked using the lock cylinders # TH450400.

I have attached some review videos for you to check out as well.
