Can the 2005 Jeep Liberty Rear Gate and Back Glass be Opened with the SpareRide Bike Rack Attached

Question:

Hi, am interested in the Yakima SpareRide 2 Bike Rack....we have a 05 jeep liberty. There is a window in the back that opens along with the truck with spare tire attatched. Would this Work on this vehicle? Can the truck still be opened with the bike on rack?

Yes, you will be able to open the back glass, swings up, and then the tailgate, swings to the side, with the SpareRide 2 Bike Rack, item # Y02599, installed on the back of your 2005 Jeep Liberty.

Opening the rear gate is not recommend with bikes installed on the rack, see instructions link. Opening the door with the weight of the bikes hanging on the rack would eventually damage the hinges on the gate causing it to sag and not close properly. You should also be aware that the bike rack arms should be folded down if you are opening the gate when parked on the street for safety.
