Troubleshooting Trailer Disconnect Message On 2010 F-150XL With Factory Integrated Brake Controller

Tailer lights are working, but if I trigger the manual slide for the trailer brakes I get the Trailer Disconnected msg 2010 F-150XL w/ integral controller Ive tried the usual cleaning of the connections for the 7-pin plug/factory recpt. Ive read other websites talking about resistance and grounding, tried a grounding strap with no improvement. I like the integrated controller, it has worked fine for two years since I had it added to the truck - same trailer, now two years old.

Seeing as your brake controller only gets that signal when you hit the manual override on your controller, I suggest adjusting your controller and seeing if the difference in voltage sent causes that error message to not be triggered and yet still function correctly. Next, I would check the brake magnets on your trailer as they may be wearing out and the extra voltage is causing them to short. I've attached an article to help you test them since this is a new occurrence using the same controller and trailer. You will need a digital multimeter like # PT89ZR to test them. Another option is to borrow another trailer for testing and see if it does the same thing or not to help you diagnose the issue.
