Spare Tire Carrier Mounted on Yakima HoldUp
Question:
Hey, I was looking to mount a spare tire carrier such as the MaxxTow Spare Tire Carrier Item # MT70214inch to my Yakima HoldUp 2inch Hitchrack to carry my spare tire. I drive a 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk, so the cargo space is kinda lacking. Do you know which spare tire carrier would be best and would fit a 17inch 5 lug rim? Ive pointed to the place on the rack where I would mount the spare tire in the attached photo. Thanks

Your Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Platform Style - Tilting # Y02443 is not intended to hold a spare tire, but it's weight capacity of 60 lbs per bike should give it the durablity to do so. Using this rack for a spare tire will definitely void its warranty.
Using a spare tire carrier like the MaxxTow Spare Tire Carrier for 3" x 5" Trailer Frames - 4-Lug and 5-Lug Wheels # MT70214 will be really bulky and won't attach to a bike frame without some customization. You may want to consider using the Fulton Economy Spare Tire Carrier with Lock # FETCHL0700 to simply secure the spare tire around the rack if you choose to pursue this option.
My recommendation is to use the Curt Trailer Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier # C31006 along with our etrailer.com Spare Tire Lock # e98892 and Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - Flush Design for 2" Trailer Hitches # e98880 for your 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk.
