Best Option Installing the Wesbar 403075 Tail Light on a Jet Ski Trailer

Question:

Our jet ski trailer suffered a broken right tail light lens. The replacement light comes pre-wired with bulbs, a connector and ground wire. Since my current light is hard wired and doesnt use the connector from the replacement, can I just remove those from the replacement and screw the bulb assembly into the new lens assembly. This would keep me from having to splice wires and worry about water issues.

If your current light assembly is not a sealed unit, then you should be able to just replace the bulb as long as both bulbs are interchangeable.

If the light assembly is a sealed unit, I would not recommend trying to change out the bulb. Breaking the seal could cause a risk of water contamination in the light when submerged.

In this case, you can install the new light using heat shrink butt connectors, like the Deka # DW05744-5 in 14-16 gauge wire. Just cut off the plug and use the butt connectors to connect to your trailer's wiring. Using a hairdryer you will be able to heat shrink the butt connectors to the wiring to create a water tight seal around the wires.
